Being the Best You in 2022
The New Year comes with so much possibility. It sounds cliche, but a new year comes with an opportunity to change up your lifestyle and start a new routine. It’s been a second since I’ve used my blog as often as I would like, so I know you can guess that blogging more is part of my 2022 resolutions. Here are some other routines I want to implement in my life, and you can also to become the best version of yourself in the new year.
Mental Wellness
I think that one of the best ways to improve your mental health is journaling. I can’t say I journal every night, but I want to do it more often this year. Being able to write your thoughts in a safe space can be so relieving. Every time I write in my journal, I write a list of as many things I can think of that I am grateful for. It can be as simple as being thankful for loving your outfit that day, watching a show with friends, Facetiming a loved one. Whatever you can think of, write it on the page. Looking back through my journal entries and seeing my list of what I am grateful for never fails to make me feel blessed. If you are having a bad day, seeing the things you have to give thanks for can put your bad day more into perspective.
After writing my gratitude list, I write a list of “wishes." I started recently writing these in more of a “This will happen” sense rather than “I want this to happen.” I think if you believe, you can achieve. If you know me well, you know I have manifested multiple things in my life. I am a believer that everything happens for a reason, so not everything you wish for will come true. However, putting my desires on a page makes me feel grounded.
Another piece of mental wellness I want to take into the new year is setting time aside for reading. It takes me an embarrassingly long time to finish any book because I only read on vacation. Taking time every night to read is something I want to continue.
Lastly, listening to podcasts has been one of my favorite activities that I will definitely carry into the new year. I have learned some incredible things and changed the way I think because of some podcasts I listen to. My favorites right now are ILYSM with Kenzie Elizabeth and The Skinny Confidential Him & Her.
Health
Obviously, health is one of the main new year’s resolutions. After the holiday season, it feels really nice getting into a healthy routine again. As nice as Christmas time is to skip the gym and have as many sweet treats as you want (nothing wrong with this of course, we all deserve it), a January reset is exactly what I need. My goal is to do an exercise 5 days a week. Whether the exercise is a Lilly Sobre ab workout (all of her videos are amazing), an inlined treadmill workout, or a walk outdoors, taking the time to move your body is the best thing you can do. I will always remember a line from Elle Woods in Legally Blonde saying “Exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy.” Love and live by this quote.
I think eating healthy is one of the best things you can do not only for your physical health but for your mental health as well. When I eat healthily, I feel more productive, happier, and more confident. Cheat days are allowed obviously and much needed, but an overall healthy diet makes for a healthy mind. Some of my favorite foods right now are the gut-friendly foods I learn about on TikTok. TikTok has made me learn an incredible amount about food and gut health. I love kimchi, bone broth, sauerkraut, apple cider vinegar. and a diverse range of foods. I also take probiotics each morning.
Productivity
Since school is coming back and the work grind is starting again, making sure to keep on top of my work is something I will try to sustain through the year. Planning out your day in a planner or even just in the notes app can help you feel more at ease with the work you have to do. I start every day by making my bed. My dad stuck me with the principle of making my bed each morning to start the day right and I’ve always followed it. I like waking up relatively early so I can start my day with a workout. This sets the tone for my day. I never like to do homework once the sun sets, so getting as much done as I can during the day lets me have the nights off to catch up on shows or read with no stress about work.
I’ve been making TikTok vlogs of my day which has helped me stay motivated to be productive. The vlogs are honestly way more for me than making content for my followers. I love being able to look back and see what I have done each day because it motivates me to do it again the next day.
Sleep
Sleep is the MOST important thing your body needs. Especially being in college, so many people do not prioritize sleep into their schedule. I always try to get at least 8 hours of sleep. The app Calm has been a lifeline for me. The sleep stories almost always put me to sleep within 20 minutes. I struggled a lot in high school and the beginning of college with getting enough sleep. Having more of a daily routine definitely helps me fall asleep faster, but once I got Calm it changed the game. On nights I really need to rest, Melatonin is my favorite sleep vitamin. I also love it because I have the most detailed dreams while still waking up refreshed. I stopped drinking coffee every day because I wake up with enough sleep most mornings to not need caffeine to keep me up.
Everyone goes into the new year with different ideas of resolutions and how the year will go. By really taking the time for myself and my health this year, I can’t wait to make 2022 my year and be the best version of myself all around. I will be adding to this mood board and my Pinterest so you can follow along with my inspiration!
