Gator Gameday

Every freshman is excited for their first gameday. I wanted to highlight a few things about my first two game days and mention how I made my shirt!

Here’s some tips for how to survive in the Swamp… p.s. only Gators get out alive :)

  1. Drink tons of water: I get dehydrated so easily so drinking tons of water throughout the day was the only thing keeping me going.

  2. Eat a huge breakfast: Some of the frats have food there, but just eat a ton early because you probably won’t get food again for a long time. I had Chick-fil-a mac and cheese, my new favorite food, which kept me going all day long.

  3. Wear sunscreen: My biggest mistake. I didn’t put any sunscreen on and even though our first game was at night, I was out of my dorm for hours with the sun beating down on my very pale skin. Not a fan of my sunburn.

Bag Checklist

There isn’t a ton you can bring into a stadium due to new laws requiring clear small bags, but if you bring these items, I swear you will thank me later.

  1. Portable Charger: If your phone doesn’t die, you’re gonna make a ton of friends in the stadium since it seems like everyone’s phone is dead.

  2. Powder: It is hot, my face gets oily, it isn’t cute. Just bring powder and thank yourself later when you aren’t oily in pictures.

  3. Lip balm: When you are talking to people and/or singing cult favorites at a party all day, you will want to have some lip balm to prevent lip chapping. Plus, the Glossier one I use is so cute and sparkly, so why not?

  4. Perfume: Again, it is hot out there. This one’s self explanatory.

  5. Mints

  6. Cash: The man carrying popcorn and ice cream is always somewhere in the stadium, don’t miss out on them by having no cash!

  7. Snack: My favorite frats have food at them. The mac and cheese at Sigma Chi is literally amazing. Just bring a snack though in case it’s a long day and need a pick me up!

I made the tube top myself by buying doing this.

  1. Buy a toddler size t-shirt (I got a size for a 4 month old because I put it up to myself and saw that this size would fit snug enough, just like an actual tube top).

  2. Cut sleeves off and try on the shirt to make sure it fits before putting on the letters. If it is too tight, you can cut the seam so it is just one large piece instead of cylindrical. Next, use some of the fabric left over from the sleeves to attach the two ends of the now rectangular fabric piece together. If you have a sewing kit, this is how you would do it.

  3. Iron on the letters and decal. It took 20 minutes from start to finish, and I was left with a super cute shirt for game day that so many people asked where I got it!

The skirt is from Adika and I wore GGDB’s on my feet.

89D82CE7-EE8A-4C8B-B04E-9CB019160865.JPG

The next gameday, I had on a tube top with my sorority’s name on the front (bought it, didn’t make it) and white shorts from Birdiebee.

I will post more game day looks as the year goes on, but hope you got some ideas of what to bring/ what to wear! Go gators :)

Time Flies When...

I’m a freshman in college. Time management is probably the most important thing for students. A lot of other freshman like myself might have the tone of their parent’s voice ringing in their ears saying “Manage your time! Don’t procrastinate!” It’s true though. Even in the first couple weeks of school, I feel like I’ve lost touch of my blog, working out, facetiming my family, and a lot of the things that I love doing because I have been procrastinating my homework until the last minute. I researched a bit on how to manage my time better, and some of the ideas have extremely helped me and I have put into use in my daily life here in Gainesville!

  1. Set Goals

I’m a reacher. I set a lot of goals for myself always, but sometimes writing them down can really help. Last week, I made it a goal to walk instead of drive while doing errands. I walked about 2 miles just going to get my nails done and having a meeting at Starbucks. Walking is the best way for college students to work out if they don’t have time to go to the gym. The University of Florida’s campus is huge, making it a workout in itself just getting to class and back! Some of my other goals for the week included being on my phone less, going to sleep earlier, and talking to new people. I always write goals and assignments that are due on my white board, because it is SOO satisfying to cross things off a list.

  2. Say No Sometimes

I am always wanting to go out and having fun, but sometimes you need to take care of yourself and your work before heading out with your friends. I had a lot of school work to get done, and even though I felt like I was missing out, you need a balance between fun and work.

  3. No Phone Zone

I recently downloaded Tik Tok, which is basically just as addicting as Vine when that app was still alive (RIP you will forever be missed). I have spent SO much time on this app that I find myself sitting in bed for an hour and forgetting that I have an assignment to do. Hide your phone when you really need to get work done. Have a roommate put it somewhere and only ask them where it is once you are completely done. I probably wouldn’t have finished my Stat modules if I had my phone on my desk.

  4. Clocks are Your Friend

I find myself getting things done faster and less distracted when I set a stopwatch. On the top of my notes, I write how long I want to take, and then once I am finished I write how long I actually took. This helps to speed up note taking process and almost makes homework into a game.

  5. Treat Yoself

I give myself a couple hours a week to really relax, do a facemask, watch a movie, and just forget about what is stressing you out. Sunday Funday is a real thing for me, and getting my mind and act together each Sunday has been amazing. I’ve been eating a good brunch, going to church, and of course a face mask since I’m obsessed. Mental health can deteriorate so fast with stress, and school produces tons of stressful times. Just taking time for yourself is so important to be able to stay balanced and stay happy.

5B2083B3-B2F4-4B89-8F81-108A6F3B0C2D.JPG

I know a lot of these have been reiterated to students like myself so much, but I hope you can maybe take one of these ideas and apply it to your own time at school or hopefully you already are!

All in Aspen

I recently went to Aspen for the first time this June, and it’s my new favorite summer destination. I went with two friends for just three nights, but those three nights were so packed full of fun I had to share.

343FE0E0-C8A5-4B32-9CF0-E62A76E1AC0E.JPG

Day 1

Upon arriving, seeing the mountains outside the airplane’s window was a nice change of view from the flat Dallas land. After hauling up our suitcases up 4 flights of stairs into the apartment we rented, we went on a walk around the town and checked out some of the luxurious stores all along the mountaintop. After lunch, we took a long walk all around the neighborhood of Aspen. The houses here are stunning, making it a new dream of mine to own a vacation home here.

Day 2

A bright and early wake up call lead us to rent bikes and travel a 7 mile path towards Woody Creek Tavern, an Aspen staple. Chloe and Sarah rode the uphill journey back while I took a car, which is definitely what they would recommend after seeing a bear on their trip back. I ventured around the town some more as they rode back. This bike ride I would definitely recommend. It lets you see a lot of the mountains and the flowing creek below.

Day 3

Chloe and I took the gondola up to the very top of the mountain. People were still skiing during this time of year, which was such a fun thing to watch going up the mountain. We ate lunch outside and watched skiers go down. This was definitely my favorite activity of the trip. The views were breathtaking.

Overall

Having been to Vail multiple times, it was a really nice change of scenery to visit Aspen. I must say that I still am a beach girl, but being here during the summer was a great experience. The food is amazing and you get a lot of fresh mountain air being up there. Anyone thinking about a vacation spot to venture to next should for sure consider Aspen! It will not disappoint you. If you can see by how happy I look, I love Aspen :)

NYC 2019

New York City is my favorite place in the entire world. I might just be the only person to ever say that I like the smell of the city. I get it, it smells in a lot of places, but the scent brings back so many memories that I have had here and truly makes me feel like it’s the place I am meant to be. My goal in life is to spend at least one year living here, just to get to share my part in the hustle and bustle that this great city offers.

Anyways, I visited NYC this year for 6 days to celebrate one of my best friend’s 18th birthdays. Lucy and I hadn’t seen each other in over two years due to her going to boarding school in London and her family living in Japan (you could definitely call them world travelers) so I was so excited when her mom invited me and Gail out to New York for the week. I had an amazing time and getting to see them was amazing.

Here are some of my outfits of the week, enjoy! Also, check out the video I made on my instagram @katherineyorkfashion.

Fake a Glow

Once it starts getting warmer outside, I automatically just want to go outside and tan. Sometimes, time and the UV index doesn’t let me do this, and you might relate, so here’s some of my tips to always look tan and glowing.

CAAD6A90-71E8-4EAB-9E31-2507AFE00AAE.JPG
  1. Spray Tan

I love going and getting a spray tan before I have a big event or even just for fun. I personally always feel better and prettier when I am tan. I go to a place called Lux which heated machines that spray you. I get a perfect, even, natural looking tan each time I go.

  2. St. Tropez

If you don’t have time or don’t want to get a spray tan, I would use St. Tropez. Whenever I have a lot of work to do that does not allow me to go all the way to Lux, I shower at home and just apply St. Tropez all over. I think this is the best self tanning product. I always get an even coating with it. I use the large mat for my body and the small face mats to be able to get every corner on my face.

  3. Freckles Hack

If you want to fake having freckles, here’s the best way to do it. Take a cream contour (I use the clinique chubby stick) and either a small curved eyeshadow brush or a small lip brush. Dip the brush into the creamy contour and apply dots around your cheeks, nose, and forehead. Blend it in with a beauty blender and apply bronzer to finish off. I love the freckles I get when I am out in the sun for a while and this is such a great way to accentuate them.

  4. Highlight

For the glowy look that everyone loves: HIGHLIGHT! I use a combination of cream and powder highlighter to make sure that my cheekbones, under my brows, the corners of my eyes, my nose, and my cupids bow are shining like diamonds. I use the Clinique chubby highlighter stick and Anastasia Beverly Hills glow kit in Sunsetter.

  5. Blush

I watched Kylie Jenner’s video for Vogue of her doing a makeup look, and ever since then I have been the biggest fan of blush. Kylie puts a lot on which used to be scary for me but now I love the way it warms up my face and looks like I was just on the beach and kissed by the sun. I use Benefit’s GALifornia blush.

  6. Spray All Day

I use Mario Badescu’s infamous rose water face spray. Every time I am in my room I spritz my skin. I keep a bottle in my car so that when I am going to and coming back from a workout I can easily use it. It keeps my skin hydrated throughout the day!

Those are the main things I do to fake a tan and make it seem like I just came from the beach! For a summery glow try some of these!

Met Gala 2019 Favorites

The Met Gala is my favorite fashion event of the year. Celebrities go all out to embody the theme, this year’s being “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” I was unsure of what “camp” meant, but according to Harper’s Bazaar, it is “inspired by Susan Sontag's 1964 essay that defines camp as "love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration." Therefore, with a theme that concretely means over exaggerating, there were bound to be some over the top looks. Check out all of my favorites below!

Shining Star

B3209842-85C0-4022-A826-7B8398577EC8.JPG

Stella Maxwell

Moschino by Jeremy Scott

Maxwell’s Moschino dress, embellished with countless stars and made of mesh, is classy amount of exposure. The whole dress is see through, but having the stars and fur layers elevates this dress. I chose this as the first one to feature because if I was to wear anything from the Met Gala in my life, I would chose this look. Stella looks stunning from her headpiece to her unseen Casadei shoes.

Dynamic Duos

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen in Dior Hot Couture. Tom’s simple deep burgundy suit pairs well with his Gisele’s metallic silky pleated pink dress.

Kylie and Kendall Jenner in feathered Atelier Versace gowns. Kylie’s light purple and Kendall’s bold orange complemented each other and embodied the theme well. The dresses took over 30 days to complete in Milan, Italy.

Candice Swanepoel and Joan Smalls wearing Atelier Prabal Gurung. Candice’s dress is covered in light blue sparkles while Joan’s has mest paneling, feathers, and a glittering pattern.

Pretty in Pink

Camila Morrone in this Elie Saab dress are a classic reminder of red carpet dress. This gown is very traditional for a Met Gala, but the intricate design aspects of the fabric make this look different. The angles of the dress are cool aspects.

Lupita Nyong’o in a rainbow winged ensemble by Versace. These neon colors pop out a lot, making Lupita consistently stand out of the crowd. She has been on my list of favorite red carpet looks almost every time, and nothing has changed in this case.

Hailey Bieber’s soft pink Alexander Wang dress and high sleek ponytail are an innocent choice for this theme, but the dress itself is designed so impeccably and she looks so pretty with her soft makeup and hair, I had to put her on the list!

Kacey Musgraves plays as Barbie in this magenta Moschino outfit. A blowdryer purse is carried alongside, because what’s Barbie without a toy to play with her hair.

Michael Uri has this “split-gender” look by Christian Siriano. I noticed this outfit because it definitely was out there and different. Something like this has never been done before, so I appreciate the craftsmanship that went towards an effortless half man half woman style.

21 Savage

Dapper Dan

21 Savage can wear anything and look cool, which is why he is basically wearing a piece of hip hop history in this Dapper Dan styled outfit. 21 posed later with Dapper Dan, captioning his post, “wow can’t believe dapper dan the king himself dressed me I feel like ace when he left the cleaners….”

Glittering

Emily Ratajkowski in a glittering Dundas open-face dress with a winged headpiece.

Céline Dion wearing Oscar de la Renta and a Noel Steward headpiece shines as one of the four hosts of the Gala.

Saoirse Ronan is in Gucci. Gucci sponsored this year’s Gala and produced a lot of great looks on the runway. Ronan’s red gown had a lot of embellishment that Alessandro Michele should be very proud of himself.

1D0167B7-7076-49B2-B933-567DA6C75462.JPG

Caroline Trenti

Thom Browne

Trenti’s skeleton look was completely out of the box. The mesh paneling on the bottom and white sequin embellishments add another layer of dimension to an already interesting outfit.

Bright & Fun

Cara Delevingne in Christian Dior and Elle Fanning in Miu Miu encapsulate bright, fun, summer colors that pair greatly with the pink carpet. Looking at these two looks, Cara’s being rainbow striped and Elle’s a flowing coral set, makes me immediately think of Spring/Summer fashion.

The Met Gala, a.k.a. the Superbowl of Fashion, was truly impressive this year. I loved the theme and so many different looks. I am so excited for next year!

March Madness

This March was full of events. My birthday, spring break in Mexico, basketball, St. Patrick’s day, and a lot of fun. Here’s some of what I wore last month and some of my favorites!

Dress-Urban Outfitters

Love this dress for family dinners or just a casual night out. It is insanely comfy that I could really stay in it all day long.

Skirt-Tobi

I’m a big believer in the fact that you can wear inexpensive items of clothing but dress it up with accessories. An Hermes link and Gucci belt helped to dress up this casual skirt and shirt for a night out.

Boots-Dolce Vita

I went to a country themed event which made me have to go into the very back of my closet and look for something plain. I found this shirt which I actually love now because of the cute tie in the front and the way that it pairs well with many colors. The gray boots aren’t exactly your typical “western boots” but I still like the way this outfit came together.

Jacket-Aubrey Kate

One of my best friends hand painted this “Gucci-esque” jacket that has bumblebees on the front and red flowers on the back. She is so talented I am so excited to see what else she can do!

36500B3C-43A3-4B90-831F-40CCC5470FA2.JPG

Shoes-Steve Madden

I wore these sandals a lot in Cancun and they are the best to wear with EVERYTHING. They slide on so easily so no annoying clasp to deal with. The black and gold beads are really good for a night out in spring.

If you live near an R+D Kitchen, get the seared tuna salad and carrot cake. It 100% will not disappoint.

Hope you liked seeing a little bit of my life from the last month!

Spring Break Looks

This spring break, I went to Cancun. I had the most amazing time with a lot of people in my grade at school at Dreams Riviera Resort! I would definitely do this trip again-so much fun. I had a lot of time to lounge around in my swimsuit, but at night I always dressed up to go to dinner and the club at the resort. Here are my day to night outfits!

Swimsuit- Tory Burch

My luggage got stuck in Dallas until the second day of my trip, so having a best friend who is the exact same size as me is the best thing ever. Here’s to Chloe for her super cute swimsuit and letting me wear it!!!

9A3FFB65-0018-4AF9-9140-79F33052F992.jpg

White dress- Bloomingdales

We had a white party for all the spring breakers from my high school. I loved having a theme and getting to buy a new white dress for it. This one is really beachy because of the lace pattern on the outside, ruffled cap sleeves, and flowiness in the bottom. The cutouts give it a little extra flair which I like.

Top- Versace

Skirt- Lulu’s

Sandals- Steve Madden

One of my favorite trends right now is making a scarf into a shirt. I tied this Versace scarf around me into a strapless top and paired it with my favorite plain white denim skirt. I wanted to tie in the black from the scarf into my shoes so the black and gold sandals matches really well. This scarf I really like as a top. The colors are so bright and vibrant that being paired with plain items is really stylish.

B45E1692-7961-4DAA-A4DE-A54D9815DE36.JPG

Yet again another reason I am so glad I can wear Chloe’s clothes, because the first night of the trip was my birthday and was so scared that I had nothing to wear, but she really saved me. This strapless blue top and Topshop denim skirt paired well with a silver Hermes belt that I love!

I had the most amazing time in Mexico. Hope you liked getting a view into my wardrobe of the week!

80's in Aspen Looks

I love themed parties. Having an excuse to get a new outfit, do your makeup a fun way, and fitting into a theme is one of my favorite things. For my 18th birthday, my family and I decided to host an “80’s in Aspen” theme. This year was definitely my favorite party I have ever had and I am so happy I have such great people in my life that I get to share such a fun time with. Here are some pictures of the night, including my outfit and where to get all of the items I have on! You will definitely be surprised about what website I got my top and leggings on!

Jacket-Neiman Marcus

The main portion of the outfit came from Amazon which is ultimately such a great place to buy looks that you know you will only wear once. The leggings are a lot better quality than I was expecting and the top was such a hit with everyone. Buying inexpensive items and dressing them up with things like a fur jacket and designer shoes elevates a look completely. I also wore ski goggles to complete the “Aspen” look.

Here’s some other pics from the party! I had the best time ever and am so lucky to have such great friends to celebrate with.

February Favorites

February is the shortest month of the year, so you have to make it count. With Mardi Gras and Valentine’s Day, February is full of activities! Here are some of my favorite items and trends of the month.

Beauty Products

IMG_2126.JPG

Watermelon Pink Juice Moisturizer- I apply this only my face every morning and not only is it super hydrating but it smells so good. The little bottle is also adorable. I got the sample size of it and have been using it daily.

Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment- Winter can make your lips feel dry and cracked, but this lip treatment leaves my lips unchapped, smooth, and gives off a really pretty pink color.

Melu Hair Shield- I blow out my hair at least once a week, so having a really good hair protecting spray is important. I got this one from my hairdresser since he was raving about it, and he was definitely right. It smells so good!

Elta MD Sunscreen- This moisturizer is tinted and a lifesaver for my skin. I usually have dry skin and this moisturizes it so well for the morning. I can leave my house without worrying about getting sun on my face due to the SPF in this product.

Trends

IMG_2148.JPG

Sequins-From seeing the Golden Globes, sequins are clearly a trend. They were more prevalent in this years shows and on the red carpet.

IMG_2141.JPG

Fringe- Western wear is always making a comeback. Jackets, skirts, bags, have been fringed and featured on the runways.

IMG_2154.JPG

Polka Dots- This runway season, Carolina Herrera, Celine, Prada, and so many more have released outfits with dots on them, making this upcoming spring one that is sure to be dotted. You can see in my Valentine’s looks post that I wore polka dots to embrace the trend.

Items of Clothing

Here are my top two favorite items this month!

Chinese Laundry Boots- I just recently got these boots and have already worn them three times. They were so inexpensive yet made so well. They give me a lot of nostalgia as they are very “Coachella-esque” and remind me of the great fashion I saw there.

9B5F0FFF-E352-48A3-9DCE-944BCF88F415.JPG

Amazon Fluffy Jacket- This is one of the best purchases I have made. It is so comfy yet stylish enough to be worn during the day. It feels like a blanket wrapped around you, yet a lot more appropriate for running errands and going to school in! There is a similar jacket that can be found at Urban Outfitters, but I love my knockoff one from Amazon just as much. Here I am wearing it on my trip to Alabama. It seriously is the comfiest jacket you will ever have.

Valentine's Looks

Valentine’s Day can be such a great holiday. Who cares if you don’t have a S.O. to share it with? Having a night out with your galentines is just as fun if not more! For your romantic date or night out with the girls, here are some outfit ideas to LOVE!

Maria Beaded Heart Tote- This bag is gorgeous and what a perfect time to use it.

Naoko Dress- Such a pretty and graceful dress that is great for a date. The designing and crafting of this dress is incredible, making it a perfect red dress.

Fabia Sweater- The sweet bow at the neckline of this sweater makes a normal pink sweater into an elegant top. Pair it with jeans to dress down the look or with a skirt to dress it up.

Isadora Top- This beachy top is great for being worn again. Pair with gold jewelry and denim and it is a great casual look.

Apparis Sophie Faux Fur Coat- This jacket reminds me a lot of the stunning Yves Saint Laurent fur coat that Rihanna (see image below) wore last year and made waves in. I really like the look the model has going. Since the jacket should be the centerpiece of the outfit it is good to wear something simple underneath.

Love Moschino Sweater- Going for a cozier date night? This sweater is so cute and looks so comfy.

Christian Louboutin Stilettos- I prefer wearing red on the bottom of my shoes. Louboutin has been making the most stunning high fashion shoes that anyone could recognize those red bottoms. Valentines is the perfect occasion to pull out the pumps!

Larsa Boot- These red stiletto boots are amazing. Super affordable and easily make you confident and stylish.

Silver Glitter Slides- Slides are so comfy but aren’t fit for a night out. However, Jimmy Choo made these dazzling glitter slides that are to die for. If Cinderella was wearing slides, it would be these.

My Look

In the front image, I am wearing my favorite red dress. It has a sweet and happy feeling to it because of the ruffles and polka dots. I got this dress at Saks in New York. When I tried it on, I loved it immediately. I wore it to a school dance and had so many compliments. I really love the designer, For Love and Lemons, because of their chic yet laid back style. Here’s some more pics of the dress!

Below, I’ve curated a lot of images that I took some inspiration from and that I think you all will love. Enjoy!

Golden Globes 2019 Top 5

Award season is upon us. I loved a lot of the looks from the Golden Globes this year, but I narrowed it down to my top 5 best that exemplified the most glamour!

5.  Kiki Lanes

IMG_1673.JPG

This break out stars’ custom Dior dress gives a soft elegance to the runway. This whole look has major ballet vibes, with a dancer’s bun on her hair and the soft pink toile fabric. The top of the dress has a caged pattern which adds another element to the dress. Her natural pink makeup and frosty jewelry are a great addition.

4. Rosamund Pike

IMG_1674.JPG

Pike’s Givenchy billowing black dress is only part of the look. The silver sparkly jacket elevates the dress and draws attention to the crossing top with a thick black choker. The gown is creative from top to bottom, with mesh and satin elements. Mesh can really add interest to an article of clothing when done in the right way, and this dress exemplifies that.

3. Saorise Ronan

IMG_1675.JPG

Ronan’s chainmail gown designed by Gucci (my personal favorite designer) is the creative work that Gucci continuously brings. The crystals making up the dress and all the skin showing is a risk for this event, but Ronan gracefully pulled it off. The dress is pieced together using larger stones and the chains hanging are crafted with thin beads.

2. Keri Russell

IMG_1676.JPG

Russell is dazzling in this metallic Christian Louboutin gown. The plunging neckline is reserved enough to still be a classy dress. Sparkly dresses can be very difficult to design and craft to keep a value of expense to it. A lot of sparky items come across as cheap, but the craftsmanship of this gown is so perfect that it shines bright like a diamond against the red carpet.

1.  Lupita Nyong’o

IMG_1677.JPG

Who could have guessed that these silver heels, that Lupita so sassily tosses behind her, are only 45$ from Aldo! The dress is designed by Calvin Klein with shiny silver accents cascading off. Her eyeshadow matched the blue shade of the dress, giving her eyes a pop of color. The entire look was breathtaking, but the fact that her shoes were so inexpensive is what gives her look the #1 spot. It’s nice to know we all can feel as luxurious as world-famous actresses- in Aldo heels!

I hope you enjoyed my top 5 looks! Here’s to more red carpets to come.

Sweater Weather

Everyone’s favorite time of the year: fall. Not only does Starbucks release the best fall drinks (PSL pls!!) but all brands start releasing their fall wear. To get ready for fall, here’s some of my favorite brands for the best fall sweaters.

Maison Scotch + Soda

Hope you got some good ideas for fall wear!

ACL Looks 2018

I have been lucky enough to have gone to Austin City Limits for two years in a row. The style of ACL is a mesh of many other festivals, with boho vibes like Coachella and 80’s grunge like the days of Woodstock.

The style isn’t the only amazing thing about ACL. It’s food is great and the music is a great blend of genres. I have been to my fair share of music festivals, and ACL is the only one that has such a wide range of artists. In the two days I attended the Austin fest, I saw so many genres of music. I loved being able to experience more than just the Drake playlists I constantly listen to on Spotify.

Check out my outfits for this year and where everything was from!

I opted for a blue/purple themed look on my first day. I based the look around the Pucci scarf tied around my waist. My mom has had the scarf for years, so when I saw it in her closet I was already forming my outfit in my head.

As a Day 2 look, I was more inspired by Talledega Nights and the race wear instead of boho chic. I saw this white top at Urban Outfitters and was immediately wanting to base my look around it.

NYC Food Guide

New York has some of the best food in the entire world. Being a foodie myself, living in the city for two weeks gave me some of the best eating opportunities. I have a food guide below of all the best places for munches, coffee, people watching, and enjoying everything the city has to offer! Click on the pics below for more info.

I lived off of iced coffee during class. Every morning and lunch I savored some of the best iced lattes with almond milk.

Happy munching!! ;)

LIM Fashion Lab Review

While I was in NYC, I was taking classes at the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising. This is a fashion school in the city. I took two classes there, Foundations of Fashion Styling taught by professor Carlton Spence, and Retailing and Buying by Charles Goldfine. Both of these classes taught me a lot about the fashion industry and gave me two college credits, as they were in depth courses. In this post, I will be going into detail about some of the things I learned and did over the course of these two weeks. These classes I took were really eye opening and showed me parts of the industry that I never knew. From field trips to Barneys to styling a model in a photoshoot, I learned so much valuable information and I hope from reading this post that y'all do as well!

Foundations of Fashion Styling

In this class, taught by Professor Spence, we had an in depth training of being stylists. Our task of the class was to style a monochromatic look. My group's color was green, so we went to sample sales and fast fashion shops to find a classy looking outfit on a budget. The class culminated in a photoshoot with professional makeup and hairdressers and a model. We also took a lot of field trips to department stores. At Saks, we had a 30 minute challenge to create a look based on mixing pattern and texture. Mixing patterns can be hard, trying to make an outfit be not too loud or crazy, but doing this challenge gave me an appreciation for how beautiful different patterns can come together.

Retailing & Buying

This class, by Professor Goldfine, we spent a lot of time discussing what a fashion buyer does. We spent most of our time at department stores researching how expensive items were and how they were placed in stores. In Saks and Barneys the high end shoes were placed throughout whereas at Macys they only had two sections where Gucci and Louis Vuitton had little boutiques. I learned a lot about the buying aspect and how difficult their job is. It really shows how much pressure is on buyers, as they have to buy looks and trend forecast an entire season in advance. The sales are all based on what the buyers do, so their job is extremely important. I have always been the consumer, so learning what buyers do was really cool.

This was an amazing experience being able to live in the city, stay at dorms, and take classes, and I learned so much from this. Anyone interested in fashion I would highly recommend doing this program!

Heavenly Bodies at the Met: Review

Heavenly Bodies at the Museum of Metropolitan Art is an extravagant collection of biblical design pieces. I was extremely inspired by the artwork on all the pieces. I love how the designers created a blend between religion and design, and it was really cool to see how they were able to compliment the two. The Met is a gorgeous museum, and the Met Gala theme this year was amazing to see. My favorite looks from the Gala were Rihanna, Gigi Hadid, and Blake Lively. The best looks from the Met Museum were the Gianni Versace evening gowns and the Dolce and Gabana evening gowns. The Versace gowns were embedded with crystals and gold and sparking. They were raised on pedestals, symbolizing the holiness and gorgeous style of the dressed. The Dolce and Gabana gowns were also elevated, creating a beautiful display of the embellished and beaded dressed. Throughout the exhibit, there were multiple displays of sparkles and embroidery. There was also a long row of dresses reminiscent of a traditional nuns wear. I loved seeing the different looks that were all related to religious symbols. This exhibit proves how fashion is more important than just a look, but that it has another meaning that goes beyond the stitching.

Jamaica Looks

I had the best time in Jamaica this June and loved being able to wear summery looks. We stayed at an all inclusive resort in Runaway Bay that housed several restaurants, so I got to dress up each night. I have a lot of stripes in the outfits below, which are a big trend for this summer. If you want to cop any of my looks, I have included all the info below!

Some of these items can be seen in my previous traveling posts, I have my Louis Vuitton luggage, New Balance shoes, Athleta yoga pants, Gucci tee, and Outlands denim jacket. I love wearing comfy yet cute outfits on the plane so that when you land you are ready for pics and enjoying your vacay.

As featured in my last post (check it out here!) I am wearing this top made by my dear friend, Kaki Zuch, and the white denim skirt is from Lulu's. I have been wearing this white skirt a ton, since it is fancy enough to go out in while also being super good for summer.

Two piece sets are a major summer trend. This tribal printed two piece set is from Pitaya. It features a sky high slit in both the legs, showcasing a perfect amount of skin without being too revealing. I am wearing Sam Edelman white wedges to compliment the long pants. Wearing heels with long pants can dramatically save you from taking a tumble by stepping on the bottom of your pant leg.

Yet again, another two piece! This one is from Zaful. Zaful can be a tricky website to order things from, since everything is extremely inexpensive and the quality can sometimes be neglected as a result of the cheap clothes. However, if you are careful about what you order and make sure to scrutinize the picture and description of the look to make sure it will not appear cheap, then Zaful can be a really good tool for trying out new looks.

This romper is from Pitaya. If you are going to the beach, get a light blue romper. I promise you won't be disappointed. The light blue color looks so good in pics by the ocean and you can restyle the romper so many ways to be able to wear it again.

White in undeniably a beach color. This white romper is from LF and the shoes are Sam Edelman.
