Gator Gameday
Every freshman is excited for their first gameday. I wanted to highlight a few things about my first two game days and mention how I made my shirt!
Here’s some tips for how to survive in the Swamp… p.s. only Gators get out alive :)
Drink tons of water: I get dehydrated so easily so drinking tons of water throughout the day was the only thing keeping me going.
Eat a huge breakfast: Some of the frats have food there, but just eat a ton early because you probably won’t get food again for a long time. I had Chick-fil-a mac and cheese, my new favorite food, which kept me going all day long.
Wear sunscreen: My biggest mistake. I didn’t put any sunscreen on and even though our first game was at night, I was out of my dorm for hours with the sun beating down on my very pale skin. Not a fan of my sunburn.
Bag Checklist
There isn’t a ton you can bring into a stadium due to new laws requiring clear small bags, but if you bring these items, I swear you will thank me later.
Portable Charger: If your phone doesn’t die, you’re gonna make a ton of friends in the stadium since it seems like everyone’s phone is dead.
Powder: It is hot, my face gets oily, it isn’t cute. Just bring powder and thank yourself later when you aren’t oily in pictures.
Lip balm: When you are talking to people and/or singing cult favorites at a party all day, you will want to have some lip balm to prevent lip chapping. Plus, the Glossier one I use is so cute and sparkly, so why not?
Perfume: Again, it is hot out there. This one’s self explanatory.
Mints
Cash: The man carrying popcorn and ice cream is always somewhere in the stadium, don’t miss out on them by having no cash!
Snack: My favorite frats have food at them. The mac and cheese at Sigma Chi is literally amazing. Just bring a snack though in case it’s a long day and need a pick me up!
I made the tube top myself by buying doing this.
Buy a toddler size t-shirt (I got a size for a 4 month old because I put it up to myself and saw that this size would fit snug enough, just like an actual tube top).
Cut sleeves off and try on the shirt to make sure it fits before putting on the letters. If it is too tight, you can cut the seam so it is just one large piece instead of cylindrical. Next, use some of the fabric left over from the sleeves to attach the two ends of the now rectangular fabric piece together. If you have a sewing kit, this is how you would do it.
Iron on the letters and decal. It took 20 minutes from start to finish, and I was left with a super cute shirt for game day that so many people asked where I got it!
The skirt is from Adika and I wore GGDB’s on my feet.
The next gameday, I had on a tube top with my sorority’s name on the front (bought it, didn’t make it) and white shorts from Birdiebee.
I will post more game day looks as the year goes on, but hope you got some ideas of what to bring/ what to wear! Go gators :)
